  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (yellow, brown, and black)
  • Buttercream frosting (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour your heart-shaped cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients.
  5. Divide the batter into three bowls and tint one portion yellow, one brown, and leave one black.
  6. Pour the colored batters into the prepared pans to create a fun cheetah print effect.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Let the cakes cool, then frost with buttercream frosting.
