A comforting dish of layers of tender potatoes enveloped in rich, creamy sauce, seasoned with garlic and cheese.

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish evenly.
  3. In a bowl, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and optional fresh thyme.
  4. Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses on top.
  6. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use a mandoline slicer for uniform slices, and try different cheeses for variations.
