A silky smooth, elegant dessert that is surprisingly simple to make, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Bloom the gelatin in cold water for about 5 minutes.
  2. Heat the milk, sugar, and vanilla over medium heat until warm.
  3. Whisk the egg yolks until pale and thickened.
  4. Temper the egg yolks by gradually adding the warm milk mixture while stirring.
  5. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook until thickened.
  6. Stir in the bloomed gelatin until dissolved and let cool.
  7. Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  8. Fold the whipped cream into the cooled custard mixture.
  9. Transfer to a dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
  10. Serve topped with fresh fruits or chocolate shavings.
