Crispy, golden calamari that captures the essence of beach dining and is perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 pound calamari, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges
  • Dipping sauce (marinara or aioli)

Instructions

  1. Soak the cleaned calamari in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the coating mixture by mixing flour, cornmeal, salt, and paprika in a bowl.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dredge the calamari in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  5. Fry the calamari in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain the calamari on paper towels and serve with lemon wedges and dipping sauce.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven to restore crispiness.
