A warm and comforting German Apple Cake filled with tender chunks of apple and a hint of cinnamon, perfect for dessert or an afternoon snack.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups fresh apples, peeled and chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the milk, alternating as you mix.
  6. Fold in the chopped apples gently.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
