Delightful homemade naan bread, soft and pillowy, perfect for pairing with curries and chutneys.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons garlic (optional, for garlic naan)

Instructions

  1. Gather your ingredients and combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add in the yogurt and warm water, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rest covered for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Shape the rested dough into equal portions and roll each piece into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each naan for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Brush each naan with melted butter before serving, adding minced garlic if desired.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
