A comforting recipe that brings family and friends together, featuring tender dumplings filled with ground pork, cabbage, and green onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour (substitute with gluten-free flour mix if desired)
  • ¾ cup Water (use warm water for easier mixing)
  • 1 pound Ground Pork (or ground chicken or tofu)
  • 1 cup Finely Chopped Cabbage (salted and drained)
  • ¼ cup Minced Green Onions (can substitute with chives)
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce (low-sodium for a healthier option)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil (or olive oil)
  • To taste Salt (reduce or use low-sodium)
  • To taste Black Pepper (optional, or substitute with white pepper)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and warm water. Stir with a fork until a rough dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes on a floured surface until it’s smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: While the dough rests, place the finely chopped cabbage in a bowl, sprinkle with salt, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Drain the excess moisture. In another bowl, mix the ground pork, drained cabbage, minced green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper until combined.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Divide the dough into two pieces and roll one piece on a floured surface until about 1/8 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out circles about 3 inches in diameter.
  4. Fill the Dumplings: Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a semi-circle and pinch the edges to seal.
  5. Cook the Dumplings: In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add dumplings in batches and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden. Add a splash of water, cover, and steam for 5-7 minutes until cooked.

Notes

Dumplings can be served with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce and store well in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for later use.
