Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup almond paste
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  2. Incorporate cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Form the dough by adding milk gradually.
  4. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle.
  6. Spread the almond paste and drizzle almond extract over the dough.
  7. Shape your kringle by folding and twisting the dough.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes.
  9. Prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled kringle before serving.
