A comforting Southern classic of fluffy biscuits topped with rich, creamy sausage gravy, evoking warmth and nostalgia.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined, forming a dough.
  3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently, then roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into rounds and place on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. While the biscuits are baking, cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until nicely browned.
  6. Stir in the 2 tablespoons of flour and cook for about a minute. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Once the biscuits are out of the oven, serve warm topped with the sausage gravy.

Notes

For fluffier biscuits, avoid overworking the dough and use cold ingredients.
