  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Place the cubed bread into a large mixing bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture over the bread cubes, gently folding to coat. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Fold in the diced apples and nuts (if using) into the bread mixture.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the top.
  8. Place in the oven and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes.
  10. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce just before serving.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
