  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 21 oz Original Country Cherry, 1 can, drained
  • 1 large egg yolk, for brushing
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 3 Tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Thaw the puff pastry on the counter for about 30 minutes.
  2. Beat cream cheese and sugar on low speed until creamy. Add egg yolk, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and salt; mix until smooth.
  3. Place the puff pastry on a tray lined with parchment paper, dust it with flour, and roll it out carefully.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture down the middle of the puff pastry sheet, creating a 3-inch strip.
  5. Top the filling with drained cherries, ensuring they are evenly spread.
  6. Cut the sides of the pastry into 1-inch strips, leaving 1 inch uncut near the filling. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides.
  7. Brush the dough with the beaten egg yolk.
  8. Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Mix powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze.
  10. Let the danish cool before drizzling with the glaze.

Notes

Pairs well with coffee or tea. Can be stored at room temperature for two days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Freeze for longer storage.
