A delicious and aromatic Chicken Tikka Masala that captures the essence of Indian flavors with marinated chicken in a creamy tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cubed
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 can (14 oz) tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Add the cubed chicken, ensuring every piece is coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  2. Sauté the onions: Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and ginger: Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for another minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until the mixture is aromatic.
  4. Brown the chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the pan. Cook until it’s browned on all sides, about 7-10 minutes. The spices will bloom and intensify, filling your kitchen with an incredible aroma.
  5. Simmer with tomato purée: Pour in the tomato puree, stirring well to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, allowing it to cook for 10-15 minutes. This step helps deepen the flavors and allows the chicken to cook through.
  6. Stir in heavy cream: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
  7. Garnish & serve: Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving. The vibrant green adds freshness to this rich dish.

Notes

Serve with basmati rice or naan, and optionally a side of cucumber raita.
