  • 4 cups apple slices
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the apple slices with lemon juice, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, cornstarch, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix well.
  3. Carefully transfer the apple mixture into a greased 8-inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  5. Stir the melted butter, 1/2 cup of sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and milk into the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Using a spoon, drop dollops of the dough evenly over the apple filling.
  7. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle this over the top of the dough.
  8. Put the baking dish into the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
  9. Once baked, let the cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For optimal flavor, use a mix of tart and sweet apples. You can enjoy this cobbler with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
