Delightful crispy fries made from leftover or freshly-made mashed potatoes, perfect as a snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or leftover)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour if preferred)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for added flavor)
  • Oil for frying or baking (olive oil, vegetable oil, or your favorite halal oil)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the smooth mashed potatoes with the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. If you’re opting for the Parmesan cheese, fold it in gently.
  2. Shape the fries: Using your hands, take a handful of the mixture and form it into fry shapes, about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide.
  3. Cook the fries: For frying, heat your oil in a deep pan over medium heat and fry them in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side. For baking, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C), place the fries on a baking sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through.
  4. Serve: Remove the fries and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Ensure that your mashed potatoes are completely smooth for the best texture. You can freeze the mixture for up to 2 months.
