Crispy on the outside, cheesy on the inside, these Easy Fried Cheese Bites are the perfect indulgent treat for parties or movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 ounces mozzarella string cheese, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Cayenne pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Set up three shallow bowls or dishes. In the first bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. In the third bowl, add the Italian bread crumbs, mixing in a pinch or two of cayenne pepper if desired.
  2. Dip each piece of mozzarella cheese into the flour, ensuring it is coated completely. Next, dip the floured cheese into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the cheese in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to help the coating adhere. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb dipping step for an extra layer if desired.
  3. Place the coated cheese bites on a baking sheet, ensuring they aren’t touching, and transfer to the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes to set the coating.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pan or deep fryer to around 350°F. Gently add 5 to 6 cheese bites at a time, frying for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until golden brown. Turn the bites once during cooking for even browning.
  5. Remove the fried cheese bites from the oil using a slotted spoon, letting excess oil drip off. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and serve immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

For extra crispy bites, consider double-dipping in egg and breadcrumbs. Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature.
