A delightful and easy-to-make focaccia bread infused with garlic and topped with Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ cup olive oil (plus some for drizzling, ensure olive oil is Halal-certified)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • â…“ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. This will make the process smoother and more enjoyable. Warm your water to about 110°F, which is the perfect temperature for activating the yeast without killing it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, and dried oregano. Slowly pour the dry mixture into the wet yeast mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough starts to form.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes. You want to develop the gluten just enough that the dough becomes smooth and elastic. It should spring back when poked.
  4. Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the kneaded dough inside, turning it to coat with olive oil. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn it out onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and stretch it into a rectangle, about 1-inch thick.
  6. Using your fingers, make dimples all over the surface of the dough. Drizzle generously with olive oil, and sprinkle coarse sea salt over the top. Feel free to add more minced garlic or Parmesan cheese if you desire a stronger flavor.
  7. Cover the dough again with a damp cloth and let it rise once more for about 30 minutes. This step is crucial for a light and airy focaccia.
  8. While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the focaccia for about 20-25 minutes or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve it warm, drizzled with a bit more olive oil, and watch it disappear!

Notes

This focaccia is incredibly versatile! Serve it alongside marinara sauce or a bowl of olive oil with balsamic vinegar for dipping. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or frozen for up to a month.
