  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 4 slices ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (your choice, though cheddar is a favorite)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Arrange the ham slices over the mustard, covering the surface generously.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the ham and add a dash of black pepper.
  6. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the pastry into a log and pinch the seam to seal it.
  7. Cut the log into 12 slices about 1 cm (1/2 inch) thick.
  8. Whisk the egg and milk together to make an egg wash and brush it over the tops of the swirls.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the pastry is golden and puffed.

Notes

For a festive touch, serve with sparkling cider or wine. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
