Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Add the yeast mixture, milk, melted butter, and egg to the flour mixture. Stir until combined.
  4. Knead the dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Punch and shape: Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape each portion into a bun.
  7. Second rise: Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the buns: Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool and serve: Let cool before serving with your favorite sausages.

Notes

For softer buns, brush the tops with melted butter right after baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
