  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey, browned and drained
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 head of cabbage, chopped into medium chunks (roughly 3 cups)
  • 1 (10 ounce) can tomatoes with green chilies (undrained)
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or colby jack recommended)

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat in a large skillet over medium heat until nicely cooked, then drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the diced onion to the skillet with the meat and sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened and aromatic.
  3. Toss in the chopped cabbage, undrained tomatoes with green chilies, tomato sauce, and spices. Stir until well mixed.
  4. Cover the skillet, reduce heat to medium and let it simmer for 15-18 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cabbage reaches desired tenderness.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top, cover again for about 2 minutes to let the cheese melt beautifully.

Notes
