Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon whiskey
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 burger buns
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce, for topping
  • Crispy fried onions, for topping
  • Pickles, optional

Instructions

  1. Make the Maple Whiskey Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of whiskey, Dijon mustard, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate.
  2. Cook the Bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  3. Mix the Burger Patties: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, whiskey, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Form into 6 equal patties.
  4. Chill the Patties: Refrigerate the burger patties for about 15-20 minutes to maintain their shape.
  5. Preheat the Grill: Heat the grill to medium-high and lightly oil the grates.
  6. Grill the Burgers: Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, adding cheese in the last minute to melt.
  7. Toast the Buns: Toast the burger buns cut-side down on the grill for about 30 seconds.
  8. Assemble the Burgers: Spread Maple Whiskey Sauce on the bottom bun, layer with lettuce, burger patty, bacon, fried onions, and more sauce, then close the sandwich.

Notes

Don’t overwork the beef; mix just enough to combine ingredients. Make the patties and sauce a day in advance for convenience.
