A quick and easy skillet version of the classic Philly cheesesteak, filled with sirloin steak, sautéed vegetables, and melted provolone cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or pasta (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Once the onions are golden, add the thinly sliced steak and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Next, toss in the sliced bell pepper and mushrooms, cooking until the vegetables are tender, about another 4-5 minutes.
  5. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste, stirring to integrate the flavors.
  6. Top the skillet with shredded provolone cheese, cover with a lid, and let it melt into gooey perfection, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Serve on its own or over a bed of rice or pasta.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce. This dish can be made vegetarian by substituting steak with portobello mushrooms.
