Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
  • Butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine ingredients: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise: Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. Prepare baking soda solution: Mix baking soda with 2 cups of water in a pot and bring to a boil.
  7. Shape the pretzel bites: Divide the dough into small pieces and roll them into balls.
  8. Boil the dough balls: Boil each dough ball in the baking soda solution for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  9. Add egg wash: Brush them with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake to perfection: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Serve and enjoy: Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
