Delightful homemade beignets that are soft, fluffy, and dusted with powdered sugar for a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture is frothy and bubbly.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, melted butter, and the yeast mixture. Mix until smooth and the dough starts to come together.
  3. Rise the Dough: Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Shape Beignets: Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out to about ½ inch thickness and cut into squares or rectangles.
  5. Fry Beignets: Heat vegetable oil in a large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the beignets in batches, for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain & Dust: Remove the beignets from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain. While they’re still warm, generously dust with powdered sugar.
  7. Serve: Serve the warm, fluffy Vanilla French Beignets with a hot beverage or as a sweet dessert. Enjoy!
